Getting Around

Walking throughout Monaco is made easy thanks to the numerous elevators in use around the city, a comfortable way to reach a number of places.

There are 7 currently in use around Monaco and Monte Carlo.

  • Between the Place des Moulins and the beaches
  • Between the Princess Grace Hospital Centre and the Exotic Garden
  • Between the harbour and the Avenue de la Costa
  • Between the Place St. Dévote and the area of Monéghetti
  • Between the Terraces of the Casino, the Congress Centre Auditorium and the Boulevard Louis II
  • Between the Avenue des Citronniers and the Avenue Grande-Bretagne
  • Between the highway and the Larvotto Boulevard

Taxis
There are two main taxi stands in Monaco which are in operation round the clock at the Avenue de Monte-Carlo (near the Casino) and the railway station.

There are four supplementary taxi stands at Place des Moulins, Avenue de la Costa, Fontvieille and Beach Plaza.

Language
French is the official language, however, English and Italian are widely spoken.

Electricity
The electric current in Monaco is 220 volts 50. European sockets take 2 round pin plugs, so please bring travel adaptors with you. Most hotels will have a supply also.

Currency/Banks
The Euro is the official currency. You can change money at hotels or banks.

Banks operate between 9:00AM to 12:00PM and 2:00PM to 4:00PM. All banks are closed on weekends except for “Credit Foncier de Monaco” near the Casino, which is open daily from 12:00PM to 11:00PM.

Shopping
Monaco’s main shopping area is near the Place du Casino where you will find luxury fashion boutiques and jewellery stores. On the Boulevard des Moulins, prices are more reasonable.

Hours are from 9:00AM to 12:00PM and 2:00PM to 7:00PM daily, except Sundays.
